The Apprentice differs vastly from other films because it shifts the perspective of the audience by showcasing a young Singapore based Executioner by the name of Ariff. As Ariff progresses through the film, he is shown assisting in carrying out the death penalties when he gets the chance, however he becomes conflicted when he begins getting closer to his mentor who happens to be the chief Executioner. The emotional conflict he faces which stems from his job is showcased beautifully throughout the film, and lets the audience ponder about more ethical issues around duty and capital punishment from an emotional point of view.
